Reimagining Materials into Inspired Art

The FOUND OBJECT SCULPTURE Portfolio is in two parts - free-standing & wall-hanging. There are also early wood carvings, some of which form part of the free-standing sculpture. Most also use vintage wood objects, and the carving is mostly cherry. There are both wood and metal wall pieces also using vintage materials. TAPESTRY WITH FOUND OBJECTS was begun when Wood lost her studio to a hurricane in the 1980s and began the tapestries without a studio. They are brilliant examples of work using wool, silk, cotton and mixed media yarns with found materials.

Recently, during the lock-down for the Pandemic, she has been experimenting with small, lively sculpture in colorful wire as therapy, losing herself in the creating of the design, then the patterns and color. She calls them her "Three-ring Pandemic Circus."

Wood began as a painter in oils - The PAINTINGS IN OIL ON CANVAS have many examples in both large & mid-sizes. Still - life, the "Tapestry of My mind" series and work based on plants from the garden predominate.

Wood learned the technique of REVERSE OIL PAINTING ON GLASS when she assisted her mother in replacing / repairing antique paintings in her mother's studio. She now uses the technique to create small, jewel-like abstractions that glow with color through the glass.

The latest portfolio, COLLAGE, was begun in Wood's new Drawing Studio that she recently moved into in the village of Saugerties, N.Y. (between the lovely Catskill Mountains and the impressive Hudson River). The collages are created with vintage engravings, and many materials collected for many years, and are narratives from Wood's mind.
