About the New Series of Fay Wood's Work
The 7th - "THREE-RING PANDEMIC CIRCUS -Can We Work Together?"
We are proud to present a diverse group of unique small sculptures created during the Pandemic and will be continued during less stressful times.
Why the "Three-Ring Pandemic Circus" was created
The 1st-
My husband of many years died in 2019, just before the 'lockdown' of the Pandemic -a truly traumatic experience for us all -I hadn't realized how very numbed I was by the whole experience. Two years passed with my inability to work in my studio or even think creatively as I had in the past, and the frustration was building. Then one day I was looking at my emails and someone sent me a music video - I was bored, and so I opened it- It was a song I had loved when I was much younger, but it had a melancholy mood to it and I hesitated.
The 2nd - "Trapped Dancer"
Fortunately, I did watch it!
It was a well crafted B/W film, and then the lead singer of the group filled the screen. The image of his head was pure sculpture! The addition of the silver piercings was exotic to say the least, and then he sang! "The Sound of Silence" (Simon & Garfunkle) His voice was absolutely beautiful and added anger to the lyrics. Exactly what I need to hear! The name of the group (if you are not familiar with heavy metal music, as I wasn't) is DISTURBED. I was surrounded by beauty & anger, exactly what I needed to shock me into seeing my world again.
The 3rd- "Flying Alone"
I listened and was surrounded by all I had been missing. I have heard a good deal about 'The Healing Arts' but had never felt that I had experienced them, until now. Then, I looked at the disturbed play list and chose, "What are you Waiting For?" A very appropriate title, as it proved to be. Typical of the band's music, it, too, was what I needed. I got up from my chair and began to gather the materials to make smaller works that became my "Three-Ring Pandemic Circus". I have completed seven sculptures and have plans for three other slightly larger pieces when I have my new studio in Greensboro, North Carolina.
